The Katrina Fund for Recovery recently made two more donations to faith-based organizations in their on-going efforts to help the Gulf Coast areas in the wake of last year's destructive hurricane season.
A donation of $3,000 was awarded to Jerry Davis, who is organizing thousands of volunteers who deliver meals and supplies in New Orleans.
"Jerry has been in New Orleans since Katrina hit," Kathy Reeg, president of the Katrina Fund, said. "They feed several thousand people a day and he has a pretty awesome ministry down there."
A donation of $1,500 was also made to IMPACT Ministries, which is run by husband and wife team J.D. and Toni Smith.
IMPACT Ministries began in 1996 to help inner city youth and families, but since the hurricanes, has become involved in connecting resources to those who need them.
"They have been in Pass Christian, Miss. and are moving into Louisiana to provide meals and shelter," Reeg said. "They're going wherever the needs are."
Reeg said, to date, the foundation has depended on the sales of bands to raise funds but they will soon be seeking individual and corporate sponsors.
"Through the sale of wristbands and through generous donations from our community, The Katrina Foundation for Recovery has served many people directly affected by Hurricane Katrina," Rick Hohlt, vice-president of the foundation, said. "This local charity has touched many families in the continuing efforts of rebuilding lives along the Gulf Coast."
